Steamed Apples

Looks like some of Valve’s games are heading to OS X, Valve announced today that they are releasing a native OS X version of Steam alongside Half-Life, Left 4 Dead 2, Counter-Strike, Team Fortress 2, and, of course Portal. Great news for mac users, the gaming market has never been Apple’s strongest point but now mac users can rejoice with a full on demand store with games running flawlessly on OS X.

Portal 2 was also announced, can’t wait for that bad boy. Thoroughly enjoyed the first one with one of the greatest video game endings, I’ve thrown up the ending – don’t watch it if you intend to play Portal at some point – otherwise click the play button.

Are you ready?

Here we go!!

Xbox Live & Eircom

When I first got my Xbox 360 all I wanted to do was hook up the ethernet cable and start thumping the shit out of other people across the globe, though it took me a while to get there. Though now improved, eircom’s netopia modems were a pain in the ass to work with. Dropping connections and an interface that was impossible to work with, everything scattered in odd places but all has been updated so now its easier but I still hear of people having problems.

Hence this guide:

Go to your web browser and type in 2.168.1.254 – this will bring you to your router

On the left hand side there should be a column with a few options, click on Custom Services

NAT should be enabled, in the drop down menu click on “Xbox Live Services”, then click Enable. Just this has never worked 100% for me, Xbox Live will always tell me that my NAT is Strict. This causes problems when you are matchmaking or trying to join a game, problems will also occur when you are inviting people to your party. So we must go a step further!

Click on Define Custom Service, select “Port Forwarding”. Label your service something like “Xbox1″. The global port range and base host port are the same for all the following options so if it is UDP 88, fill all the port options as 88 and click on UDP.

You will need to do this a few times with the following options, you must always change the service name – say from Xbox1 to Xbox2 or you cant proceed. Here they are:

  • TCP 80
  • UDP 88
  • UDP 3074
  • TCP 3074
  • UDP 53
  • TCP 53

Once you’ve done that, your Xbox connection should be open and working perfectly! Enjoy

Cheese & Burger Society

Síomha told me about this website earlier on today when we were talking about food. Cheese & Burger is a whole website dedicated to burgers made from Wisconsin cheese. I have no intention of ever going out of my way to get my hands on Wisconsin cheese but this website is full of food porn. There is over 30 burgers to stare at and think “I wish I wasn’t so lazy” and recipes for those who aren’t as lazy as me.

Since the website is animated they have added a nice voice description of each burger, some humours, some not. He does sound a bit familar though, maybe Patrick Warburton who voices crippled Joe on Family Guy?

Number 13 does looks tasty…
