Romper Stomper

A movie I had been meaning to watch ever since Cormac started saying the word “gook” at the end of every sentence back in fourth year. Danny started talking about it yesterday so we watched it today as neither of us had seen it.It revolves around a bunch of lawless Australian skinheads, as they party to loud music, drink, fight (amongst each other as well as against the Vietnamese immigrants living nearby). They are living in an old garage and scrounge off the system whilst hating it. They are portrayed as hopeless, angry lost kids held together by a psychopathic and violent leader played by

Russell Crowe. He is by far the most relentless and ruthless member of the gang, and during the film you wonder whether or not they’d even exist without him. During the film, things take a turn for the worse, actually they take several turns for the worst…which has an increasingly negative effect on the gang.Crowe leads a cast of tremendously believable Aussie skinheads through their world of hatred

and debauchery. The cast all deserved awards for their portrayals. As Hando did in the film, Crowe led the cast in becoming “a gang.” The

best way to see this result is to watch the supporting roles as they watch Hando.

Capote

Now I know Hannah and Ciara like this movie, which I said to The Bear when we were getting a DVD, so we trusted their judgement. But how the fuck can you like a movie when the main character has the most irritating voice of all time. It stayed in the DVD player for about 20 minutes - max.But then Saving Private Ryan made it into the DVD player, which is one of the greatest movies of our time. Come on Wexford!

Watch Closely Now

So I finally got my hands on a copy of The Prestige, not that I looked very hard. Actually I didnt even want to see it that much, but Rory kept going on about wanting to see it and Graham went on a binge of magical movies because of this, so it must be worth watching. And oh how it was.

It follows a pair of magicians who keep trying to top one another, as the stakes increase all the way to life and death. Hugh Jackman and Cristian Bale play the two rivals, both of whom wish to exceed one another in the art of illusion. It has a great twist in it, sadly Duni and myself spotted it about half an hour into the film but not the whole twist. David Bowie also makes an appearance in the movie, nicely done.

Ross feels that this movie cannot be as good as “The Illusionist”, but is opinion is void as he was drunk watching The Prestige and is sexually attracted to Edward Norton. The Illusionist can be confused with this film, as I did when both the trailers were both released to Apples trailer website early last year. This movie in my opinion is up there with A Clockwork Orange, watch it!

Wheres the art?

CPLUVTheres loads of great community based websites where users simply submit their art to be displayed. You can see some great art over at deviantart both digital and traditional. Theres loads of brushes for Photoshop and interesting looking wallpapers. ComputerLove is also a platform where creative talent share a passion for visual language. Some of the artists have amazing talent, hundreds of artists display their work here. Its one of my favourite networks to browse around in.

Just watched Million Dollar Baby with my sister, good movie maybe a bit depressing. Photography in it was nice. Dark with some nice lighting effects. Eastwood plays Frankie Dunn, an elder boxing coach, manager, and expert ‘cut man’ who runs a gym and is learning Gaelic on the side. He’s a nice enough guy, but he can’t seem to shake the guilt from ghosts in his past. How old is he now?
